| Mario wears red because of the palette restrictions in the original Donkey Kong game. They wanted to be able to tell Mario's shirt and overalls apart, so they used red and blue. Originally his shirt was blue and his pants were red, yet for some reason they swapped a few times before becoming the same red shirt/blue pants scheme present to this day.
