I'm thinking, from what I read, that the escrow crap was something conjured up by this scammer and used to try and trick him into thinking it was legit- notice where they say the logo was just an image hosted by him. Then he whipped up an email from "escrow" personnel to make him think that a payment was sent.
At least, I think that's what the deal was.
