Not only Rosalina, but also Luigi and the Toad Brigade.
In my opinion, though, the Super Mario game with the deepest story (not that it's saying much) was
Sunshine. Mario got framed, arrested, and put on community service. Then,
Spoiler Below Peach suddenly finds out that she had apparently mothered Bowser's latest son (Although she actually didn't. Come to think of it, did anyone tell her?) Then Delfino Plaza gets flooded, and Mario finds out that Bowser was behind the whole thing and kicks his butt.
Actually, the
Super Mario Land trilogy had an intriguing plot now that I think of it.
Wario hires Tatanga to kidnap Daisy. Mario goes to Sarasaland to save her. While Mario's doin' that, Wario sneaks into Mario's castle and takes over.
Mario comes back and kicks him out. Wario decides to steal Mario's golden statue of Peach (as part of his plan to make Mario jealous with his own, bigger castle), but Captain Syrup gets it first. Wario goes to steal it from her, only to have Mario steal it back, then Syrup's genie gives Wario a castle for his trouble.
