eh Barbos gets pretty annoying at the start or if you don't do the secret mission with him in Tales of Vesperia. (Except that I don't see any reason to
not do said mission] Sure only one mob is powerful and he had weak enemies but there was strength in numbers since I recall at least ten enemies on the screen plus barbos at once when I was trying to destroy the bridges.
