Super Mario Kart (Super NES, 1992)
Receiving tremendous heaps of praise and adulation upon its debut,
Super Mario Kart was notable for its groundbreaking gameplay and revolutionary Mode 7 graphics (first seen in 1991's
F-Zero). The game single-handedly originated the kart-racing genre of video games. It also originated Nintendo's tradition of producing sports and party games starring Mario characters, which has since allowed the Mario franchise to become the most profitable and prolific in the industry. It is the third best-selling game for the Super NES, and is commonly regarded as that system's best multiplayer experience.
