Alternatively, the Space Pirates have lots of Ridleys on ice, just like the Federation. Even better: the Federation has many clones of Ridley to preserve the species. Some insider keeps trading them out to the Pirates via underhand dealing.
Big ****ing conspiracy: A part of the Federation is responsible for planting metroids in the possession of the Space Pirates, and is actually using this all as an elaborate test scenario to gauge the abilities and qualities of the Metroids in situations that would be politically unseemly - they are possibly letting the Pirates do their research in exchange for unrestricted operation in unoccupied space. |
