| Super Metroid. Why? Everything is friggin perfect. Music, environments, secrets; bosses, huge variety of enemies, unique lore; powerups, crazy hidden abilities, amazing level design. It's so elegantly done, I couldn't imagine a game I find more appealing. The bosses especially, though - it's not some lame fight like LoZ where you do the same thing three times, etc. They're all over the place and they've all got tons of different attacks, and they take wave after wave of missiles to the face without the action slowing until they're dead. This game uses visuals and sound to build suspense in a way that no similar game had done before it, if you can find many similar games outside of straight-up clones or sequels. My list of runnerups would be huge, so I won't bother. Think I'm gonna go play some more Morrowind. |
