| Okami. The biggest reason is probably how it felt like every NPC had a real personality. One of the things that really annoys me in a lot of games is how the vast majority of NPCs don't really feel alive. That wasn't the case for Okami. From little things like the guy who watches you fight demons in Kamiki Village to characters as major as Waka, everyone felt like they had their own personality. Add beautiful environments, great gameplay, a well done and detailed story, and music that fits the scene perfectly and you've got a game that's without competition for #1 on my list. Honorable mentions would be things like Morrowind/Oblivion, KotoR I/II, Skies of Arcadia and a bunch of games I haven't finished yet (FFVI), even though none of them really get close to being the top. |
