I bought the game about two weeks ago and had been making steady progress up until the Ilos section of "Race Against Time". I've made almost two dozen attempts to reach the Conduit before the timer hits 0 (it starts at 40), but I can't get much more than halfway even if I hold down accelerate through the cutscene and use thrusters on both of the jumps. I've tried looking at guides, but none of them seem to mention this problem.

So... Anyone know of a way to resolve this?

I've still got an autosave from about an hour before this is some sort of game-killing glitch, but I figured I'd check one last place before going through it all for the 3rd time in 3 days.
