Hey, they lent the name, it's their fault. All of the RPGs so far are from second-party developers they trusted with the license (Intelligent Systems et al.), and so far they're not bad. (1 There are also Mario and Sonic Olympic games and that DDR Mario game, which have at best mixed reviews.) I'm not criticizing the idea; mature Mario RPG might not turn out bad. It's just that I've seen lots of games where they use the gimmick as a crutch and they walk kind of lame as a result. For example, video games based on movies; when they're good, it's usually the exception. Also, thinking about mature Mario makes my head hurt. |
