Well, I noticed that I got as addicted to Elite Beat Agents as I was to Guitar Hero III. I couldn't tell you exactly what it is, but I guess there's just something compelling about rhythm games. Rock Band (and new GH games) is also an excuse to do karaoke on songs that are actually good. I think everyone secretly wants to be a singer deep down.

For me at least, it was also a way of introducing me to rock music. I play video games far more than I engage in passive media like TV, movies, or even just sitting and listening to music. But I had started to listen to more music by the time I started playing GH, and it introduced me to a number of awesome songs and bands. I don't think I would have listened to Boston, the Fratellis, or Muse, to name a few, if these games hadn't exposed me to them. I also don't think I'd know how Free Bird goes, or Paint it Black, or Cliffs of Dover, and so on.
