No really...Civil wars between superhero factions, various universe resets, retcons, alternative timelines, universe splitting, alternative universes, crossovers, Crises on Infinite Worlds, various evil doppelgangers, reimagining, characters being cloned (Terra, anyone?), characters dying and then suddenly being resurrected (Raven, anyone?), etc.

Well I guess that is what happens when you have a lot of different authors writing it.
That's also what happens when the character isn't allowed to grow and evolve past a certain point because it'll affect sales of action figures.

That's the truly sad thing. These characters are going to outlive us all, but in 70 years' time, they'll still be the same people they have been since 1965. They won't have learned a damn thing. They'll be doing the same thing the same way, making the same mistakes as they go. I guess I always knew that at the back of my mind, but Marvel's butchering of Spider-Man (formerly my favorite character) brought that fact to hideous, hideous light. I feel like scales have fallen from my eyes and I'm seeing clearly for the first time. After all, what's the point of getting so deeply involved with these characters when they're doomed to never actually go anywhere?
