Miles Davis - Blue in Green
Miles Davis' music is probably the world's most common gateway drug into jazz. Kind of Blue is consistently cited as jazz's hallmark record, and Davis its prime innovator. He certainly has inspired me as a musician in more than a few ways; his tireless desire to evolve and create (even if some say it was just to keep up with the times and get more money) is beautiful, but his taste and ear for musicians with which to play is what sets him apart. He never failed to find the best drummers in the business, and pretty much every support musician that ever played with him has made a name of their own outside of the Davis band. This track in particular has a noir feeling that relaxes me. The vibe of smokey black-and-white buildings and city sidewalks never fails to put me in the mood to lay back and enjoy what I have in front of me for a while, which is bizarre, but I certainly do not question it.
