And Resident Evil is just a gruesome shooter. But SH and RE both involve lots of blood and trying keeping your characters alive. There are no Phoenix Downs in SH.
Castlevania had multiple lives and continues. Hell, it had UNLIMITED continues. Okay, some of the recent Castlevanias are one-life pops, like SotN and Harmony of Dissonance. But the originals gave you 3+ lives and let you continue as many times as you damn well pleased (the latter excludes Bloodlines, which did have limited continues).
