Vash had no reason to assume that failure would mean death for the Gung Ho Guns until E.G. Mine told him explicitly. There is no reason to assume that every person who assaults him is a part of the Gung Ho Guns, since he is the most wanted criminal on the planet. There is no sufficient grounds for him to kill an assailant simply because there is the possibility that the person would be executed for failing to kill him.
Legato pulled the trigger to kill Wolfwood. To say that Wolfwood would've survived against Chapel and not be killed by Legato using Chapel's body is as speculative as saying that Wolfwood would've lost to Chapel had he not listened to Vash--in fact, there is more evidence pointing to the latter than the former, since Wolfwood was never able to best Chapel when he still had the muddled morality of his killer days. |
