Heh, I guess I'll take question 2:

Yes, Vash and Knives are plants, just as you believe. That's part of why Vash is the "humanoid" typhoon--he's not truly human, just human-looking. I think that, from the way he is able to communicate with plants in both the manga and the animated series, it's obvious that he is one himself.
