This may be a somewhat controversial choice, but I was given no requests and I stick firmly by it nevertheless.

For those of you who don't know (which I'll assume is most of you), Jethro Tull were a progressive rock group from the 60s and 70s with noticeable blues roots. They had a solid, good ol' plain rock & roll guitarist, a very good rhythm section and a very good keyboardist, but the thing that really made the Tull stick out was their singer, composer and fluteist (yes, that's right - fluteist), who was not only an incredible musician but also an entertaining showman, putting on a wild-eyed crazy persona in performances, and known for standing on one leg like a flamingo while playing flute.

It was his flute-playing style that was particularly of note. Ian Anderson was completely innovative, seemingly disregarding centuries of flute players to come up with his own, very unique style; Anderson grunted, huffed, puffed, hummed, and even spoke into his flute. Anyone who thinks that the flute is for girls hasn't heard this guy. He's so aggressive that it's almost as if the guy was angry at the instrument.
