Given that he was associated with convicted al-Qaeda members, he probably just shares their evil ideology, so...

*shrugs* Why to people think radical Islam is a good idea? Some were raised on lies and bile. Some have outlandishly poor judgement. Some are driven insane. Some are sociopaths who are attracted to any excuse to kill. He could be any of these.

It all adds up to... they're just evil and have to be stopped.
