In the 19th century they used to leave pineapples in the rooms (and beds) of guests who had overstayed their welcome. So, getting annoying relatives to leave by leaving them symbolically around their things. Or, if they don't get the significance, throw them at them while screaming "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE DAMMIT!"
