Just making sure I read this right.
My natural instinct as human being and of course a gamer is to go with what I know. So by default, I would have choosed a traditional set-up.
However, many people fear change. I'm sure fear was the feeling that we all had when first saw the Wii controller. Many of us have gotten over it and accepted while others still are skeptical and thats perfectly fine.
I guess all I'm trying to say is that once the D-pad was introduced by Nintendo, people thought that this would never replace the old Atari style joystick. Flash forward a couple years and where are we now? D-pad's have become the standard of gaming and are still found today! Nintendo also introduced the analog stick and how many people shuddered in fear?
