You see, to Nintedo, the video game industry isn't broken--its dying. Nintendo's goal is to breath new life into this industry filled with you're Ride 187 whos its and 50 Cent: Bulletproofs and once again make them available to anyone who wants to play. I'm talking about games like Duck Hunt and Excite Bike. Games like Wii Sports that are both fun and don't have a hard learning curve. And sure, you could do most of this on a regular pad. But would it be nearly as fun? I don't think so. People by Dance Dance Revolution because they dance to the beat that the game sets and its fun for them. How fun do you think that game would be if you played it on a regualr pad? Same can be said with Guitair Hero. You don't have to like either of those games, by the way, to get the point. And Of course, Nintendo wouldn't leave out the hardcore audience as well.
I thinked I mentioned before that the DS and the Wii, though similar are very different. But if you want to take a trip down this lane, then lets do it! The DS's purpose was the revolutionize the handheld biz. Well let's take a look here. I don't exactly see a successor to the Gameboy Advance in the near future, and it doesn't look like the PSP is dominating the market. So it appears as though that the DS is doing it's job rather well now isn't it? Wheather its revolutioning the handheld market or not is a different argument for a different time. The fact is that if the Wii can pull off what the DS is doing now, then Nintendo will be doing its job just fine.
You don't have to like an idea at all. That's perfectly fine. We are after all, in a forum and saying your opinions is what makes it work. You can't however, judge the future of a company simply because of your own opinion. I think the PS3 is a glorified Xbox 360 on steroids, but that doesn't mean that it might or might now be successful. (though I have to admit their gameplan really seems like they're not shooting for successfull.) But then again, I am a Nintendo fan and there's always going tobe bias in what i say, no matter when I say it.
