I think Elvis was more a superstar than a musician. Like you have movie stars (e.g. Tom Cruise) and good actors (e.g. Steve Buscemi). Sometimes you can have both as well (e.g. Brad Pitt). Elvis was a great singer, and one of the most influential in music, but not as much as the Beatles in my opinion. Did he even write his own songs?

As for Johnny Cash, I don't know much about him. I don't think his legacy is as lively in Europa as it is in the US. He's definitely not part of the public consciousness like Elvis or the Beatles. I think Walk The Line changed that a litte, but not much.
