Daevo's face was inches away from stinking mud, and he cursed the sky. He lay in deep grass somewhere in Hyrule Field, which, as soon as the rain began, became a festering quagmire. Still, he didn't dare raise his head, since he could still hear the search party scouring the field.

Reflecting on his crime, Daevo couldn't honestly say he was sorry. He was sitting at the bar in Kakariko, late the previous night. Then a fat, bearded man, smelling of gin, started speaking hoarsely into his ear, warning him to get off his seat. Daevo was sitting on the man's seat, apparently. Daevo didn't move. Suddenly, the man shoved him off the seat and with a quick flick of the wrist, made a weapon out of a broken bottle. The man darted forward, and moments later, he lay on the floor, with Daevo's dagger deep in his gut.

All night long, and well into the morning, the Kakariko police and several volunteers searched desperately for Daevo. But as his job required, he was very good at hiding.

Even when it stank this bad.

Finally, unhappily, the search party gave up, and headed back home. Daevo waited until he could no longer hear them, then he sprang out of the muddy grass and ran off.

Daevo was rather proud of his narrow escape, but he was still aware that he was a wanted man.

"I'd better find someplace where I can keep a low profile," he muttered.

It was at that moment that he noticed the glorious gate of Hyrule Castle, barely visible some miles away. He had been there several times before, and he noticed that it was always crowded.

Shifting his pack, Daevo walked through the gate.
