There are only 11 games (6 platformers, and 5 RPGs) in the main Mario series, against 13 FF games. Spin-offs such as Mario Kart, the Gameboy Marios, and the Wario/Yoshi games (and Chocobo Racing, Tactics, and Crystal Chronicles) do not count (in my opinion) as part of their respective series.
