This movie has been getting good reviews saying that it's not the usual Oliver Stone fare. I'm also editing the title to remove the call for boycott, since everyone is free to see this film if they want to.
EDIT: Plus, do you even know the plot of the film? It's just the story of two police officers who survived after being trapped in the rubble. The film doesn't even show the planes hitting. I wouldn't call a story of hope exploitive.
EDIT 2: It's been a while since I did this, but I thought I should do so to reinforce my comments:
Rotten Tomatoes Rating:
-
71% Fresh (as of this posting)
EDIT 3: Boy am I editting this post a lot.
Anyhoo, here is a quote from Richard Roeper's review, which I think fits in with this topic pretty well:
Quote:
As with "United 93" earlier this year, there's much discussion about whether audiences are "ready" to see a mainstream movie about the events of 9/11. In New York, they're still talking about what to build on the site of Ground Zero, while Hollywood has already built a replica of Ground Zero for a film. You might not want to re-live these events, even though this is an uplifting story about survival and about American resilience in the face of a terrible horror. That's your choice, but you'll be missing one of the best films of the year. Thanks to the work of [Maria] Bello and [Maggie] Gyllenhaal, "World Trade Center" in a way is also perhaps the most romantic film of the year, for it celebrates the strength of two women who didn't know if their husbands were coming home, and two men who stayed awake and alive by talking and thinking about the women waiting for them. |
