| The beliefs Scientlogists adhere to have about as much a solid foundation as other religions (which is to say, not really). The church itself, however, is most definitely a different story. To have a religious institution that deeply rooted in commercialism and suing everyone in sight over criticism is certainly not doing much for its image, especially since it's only really just begun its mainstream awareness and the fact that it has a central organization dictating the religion itself rather than a passed-down structure of beliefs, which is something all mainstream religion has. It makes the whole thing seem really shady, is all, and I doubt its legitimacy myself. Not that I'm saying its followers (not even the celebrities or those who work internally with the organization) have any doing in all of this; I consider them victims more than anything else. The whole thing will collapse on itself sooner or later anyway, the structure of the church and its practices are way too shaky to withstand any long-term mainstream acceptance. |
