Some things I neglected while being caught up on other things:
The horse controls, all things considered, could be better. This control scheme worked in MDK2 and Blasting Again for two reasons; (1) the camera is always behind you, and (2) you could make tight turns. In Colossus, these controls only work in wide, open areas. You also have to constantly hit the horse to keep it moving, so much that it borders on animal abuse. It's also difficult to stop the horse (and if you get off when the horse is so much as trotting, you go FLYING OFF), and sometimes it likes to randomly turn, I guess to avoid a rock, but then it wouldn't get back on track and then I'd have to fight to turn it and get it moving again. Another thing that threw me off on the second colossus is that you don't even need the horse to beat it, and I don't even know why anyone would want to bother with it and its clunky controls.
The fact much of this game is deus ex machina after deus ex machina aside*, some of the colossus solutions are logically absurd. For example, WHY is the 11th colossus afraid of fire? First, it's immune to it. Second, the area you're fighting it in has FOUR GIANT CANDELABRAS LINING THE WALLS, but suddenly you grab a stick with a little flame at the end and it becomes a frightened puppy? WTF?
Lastly... why is the ability to stand on the horse even in here? Because somebody thought it looked cool? I did it maybe once or twice just to get used to it for when I needed it, a time that never came.
* Hey, Mr. Priest Guy? If you didn't want the colossi destroyed, you shouldn't have put them onto terrain where they could get flipped over or stuck on hills, and maybe you should have been a little more careful about your magic rune and fur placement (and by what I can make out of the context of the intro, you also shouldn't have told the hero how killing them can bring resurrection). You may think I'm a hyprocrite because many other games like MDK2 have a lot of moments like this, but not only are MDK2's fights actually interesting, it doesn't get hyped as being above and beyond every other game ever created in every way, shape, and form.
