At the start of the game it gives you a choice of grids. They are Stanard or Expert. Stanard will sets you on one course, so you can only be one type, Forexample: Lu can only be a black mage.
But with the expert, you can learn the skills of the other people of FFX, Forexample you could have all of them black mages.
