Nintendo wasn't interested so much in mass market affordability as a pricing advantage. They've made it quite clear they don't believe anyone will pay anywhere near for the Cube what they will for the competition. Other than first parties, as far as the most important developers, I count Sega. Occasionally a Capcom or a Konami. Westerners (80% of the market) want Acclaim, THQ, Activision, and EA, all from outside Japan. No, they said their sales were below expectations pre-price cut. I'm amused by this second launch philosophy. Almost. Maybe you would, but most people wouldn't shun a free (or $30) DVD player. Who else? Retro? Sony couldn't care less. They've made it clear Microsoft is the enemy for many months now. They (and Nintendo) have basically acknowledged Nintendo's no threat. When did I say Sony's screwing over Europeans? They've made a 1/3 price cut there. [ May 11, 2002, 02:47 PM: Message edited by: Shane - The Neglected American ] |
