So there seems to be alot of heat between Sonic fans and this game. So I decided to put a review here for our message-board lovers.
If I had two brand new games; Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Adventure 2, and had to pick one, I would throw Shadow two the ground and stomp it a few times, then throw it in the middle of the highway so it can be ran over continuously. No 3-D Sonic game has ever been able to be on par to SA2, and Shadow doesn't even get close.
Gameplay:
So you have one stage and can do three missions which change your path depending on what you choose. there is Hero, Dark, and Normal. Hero is when you have a buddy (i.e. Sonic, Tails, etc) beside you as you both try to obtain your objective. Thing is about these partners, I've only seen Sonic on one of the last stages actually try to help me instead of standing around saying "Stop hurting our allies!". The major problem with this game, in gameplay, is the total lack of speed as you're somehow forced into a combat role completely. Giving enemies health bars was a bad thing. It slowed down your speed completely and makes you lose the drive to keep going. However speed-wise Shadow is just as fast as Sonic, but with the enemies that always pop in front of your face Shadow never has a chance to actually show what he can do besides mow down an enemy. Granted that he does have his moments when he's going into loops and hitting springs and getting speed boosts, (This is mostly seen in Final Haunt, one of the last stages with Sonic as your partner) but that is just too sparse. However if you're just not into that speeding thing you can easily get over it and you could just continue to mow down enemies as your heart's content. Oh, and remember those camera controls? Well it's worse than ever, you can control it worth a damn most of the time. It's like I have to wrestle with the camera just to see what's in that pit to see if it's okay to jump down.
Graphics:
The real-time graphics during cutscenes is so beautiful that they could easily be the best graphics yet in Sonic History. However, this is real-time graphics, the gameplay graphic looks like Sonic Team just slapped some stuff on and went with it. Shadow looks less detailed than what he was in Sonic Heroes. In fact he looks like he came from Sonic Adventure, just with a suited-up enviornment
Sounds:
The usual, 80's rock come into play when playing Shadow the Hedgehog. To be honest, I would rather put these songs in my comp and burn it on a CD and listen to it. "Chosen One" is my personal favorite song within the game. Aside from that, the music is still pretty cheesy within the game, but it's doable because it kinda blends in with the setting of where you're at.
Guns:
This was such as heated topic I decided to put it as a ranking. The guns, are not needed, but it seems that you actually need them in order to defeat the game. Homing attack, is crap compared to what guns can do in terms of damage. Homing attack, is actually a bad thing to use because it sends you down to bottemless pits... which happend to me more than once.

. Guns is probably the best thing to get in this game as it would make your life a whole lot easier when defeating this game, but perhaps Sonic Team made your life... way too easy. I certainly do hope Sonic Team never puts gunplay into Shadow's hand ever again. Not because it was wrong, but because it made him lose that speed we all so love.
Last Thoughts:
Shadow the Hedgehog, to me, is a good game, but it's no where near of what SA2 or Heroes have given to me once I thought about it. I can still remember Sonic going through Crazy Gadget to get to Robotnik, destroying robots and just keeps running with minimal stopping points. Shadow the Hedgehog has barely, if at all, that kinda rush in this game. However the combat in this game is heavy, and if you love destruction, this game might be for you, but even if it's not, I still suggest you give this a rental so you can find out Shadow's past. Believe me, you'll definitly want to find out.

Gameplay: 6/10
Graphics: 4/10
Sounds: 7/10
Guns: 3/10
Overall: 6/10
Maybe Sonic Team can treat you better next time, Shadow.
