^A hostile invader tries to take over Earth with super-advanced technology.......but he's totally incompetant and was only sent here so he wouldn't be in the way.
He has a robot assistant that was built to be a veritable super-soldier.......but it's also completely insane.
There is exactly one human who knows Zim's identity, and he has a genius father's entire workshop to combat the alien with.......but he's a conspiracy nut, so no one believes a word he says anyway.
Except perhaps his sister........but she couldn't care less, as long as no one interferes with what she wants.
That's the appeal; the characters playing off of each other.
