Hey. I don't fling them. I strategically place them where they will bother my target the most.

I suppose a character's personality depends on how often you use them. Since I'm a big fan of seeing opponent's HP, liked reading the descriptions, and didn't want to waste BP on a Peekaboo badge I always had a goomba in my party. If I were going for power I'd keep Watt in my party all the time. Not that you'd need him most of the time, Paper Mario is a pretty easy game.

And CK... what about Bombette? Except for a couple of enemies whose defenses drop after an explosion (which won't matter once you get Watt), I found her pretty useless in battle.
