I found some interesting parallels between this and
A Scanner Darkly:
- Both are based on well-liked stories: The Philip K. Dick Novel and the 12th Century Epic Poem
- Both are "more mature" films using an animation process previously used by the director: Rotoscoping previous used by Richard Linklater in Waking Life and Motion-Capture CGI previous used by Robert Zemeckis in The Polar Express
- Both received backlash/criticism from fans for turning their beloved story into a "cartoon" (though the criticism for Beowulf is expanded to also say that the characters look like "zombies" -- don't know where that comes from)
