True; Duke's chief rival is UNC. Maryland's historical rival was usually UVA, but UVA puts more focus on its in-state rival with Virginia Tech. And the fact that Maryland and UVA have kinda dwindled out of the picture in all major sports until Gary Williams came to Maryland and made them a basketball powerhouse.

In the early 2000s, Maryland and Duke played a series of memorable basketball games, all of them becoming ESPN instant classics. The games often went into overtime, and the teams almost never swept each other. The teams would both make the Final Four in 2001, and Maryland would lose to Duke there, and Duke won the title that year. In 2002, Duke would lose early on to Indiana, the very team Maryland would later beat to win the 2002 title. In recent years, Maryland has been one of the few teams to have success at Cameron Indoor, especially when the Cameron Crazies make racial slurs at minorities on the Maryland team, who often perform at their best in these situations. When Duke comes to Comcast (and formerly Cole), Maryland fans will often be very loud and will have jeers directed at certain players on the Duke team (J.J. Redick was the most popular target of said jeers), so Duke and Maryland can be very, very intense. -CSM
