Look around, figure out biggest bang for your buck. Gaming isn't really a good thing on notebooks because of the power constraints. If you get Vista, make sure you have 2 gigs of RAM. Actually, get 2 gigs of RAM to begin with, anything less is uncivilized. That's the main thing I can say with it without knowing budget constraints.

All really depends on budget. Which, if we don't know, we can't really recommend.

If you're looking at brands, Dell/Alienware, Toshiba, maybe HP. I prefer customization, so Dell worked well for me (HP to a lesser extent, they load you up with more crap than Dell).
