I'm going to be frank and say that most girls (well, me anyway) feel kind of awkward when people compliment us when we don't know them that well. It's weird, we should accept the compliment and be flattered, but we DON'T.

I suggest just talking to her and getting to know her, then after awhile, when you feel you're closer, compliment her again.

We feel more comfortable being flattered by someone we already know and feel close to.

This applies mostly to shy types (when it comes to boys, anywayz), so I suggest giving this a whirl before giving up entirely.
