And yes, you have a point... ToS can be VERY cliched. However, when it does so it adds a plot twist or a character or SOMETHING that turns that cliche into something AMAZING.
...Or at least that's what I think. It seems that when it gets too cliche'd, it adds a twist later that just makes that cliche its own.
