Sidestep-dodging I think is actually harder because of the timing. It takes longer to do the sidestep, and that puts you at a disadvantage for the second and third halos.

I was able to actually do the spot-dodge today in Boss Battles. Once you suffer the hard way and beat the final boss, play Tabuu in Boss Battles for good practice. On easy, the halos only do 40% damage instead of 120%.
