If you buy coffee from him every day, he'll become more and more friendly. Not sure if there's any kind of benefit from it, but it's cool to see.

It's the same thing with Sable. Talk to her at least once a day, and she'll become less stiff.

I payed off my first loan, and Nook closed for remodeling. So far my villagers are Tank, Nibbles, Drake, and Queeny. I'm not sure if that's her name or not, but she's an ostrich.
