If you don't culturally dub the show, it makes absoultely no sense to 98.7% of the people watching it because they don't know anything about japanese pop culture. Its the same thing if they dubbed ATHF raw into south america. They wouldn't get the references to Foreigner and other 70s/80s rock groups. If you never heard of FLCL before I typed it, you're a tool and have no right judging anime. Milkchan is hackeyed garbage. |

I got my first taste of Super Milk Chan last night, and it was horrible. I couldn't watch more than 10 minutes before turning the TV off and going to bed.

But I think they had two dubs, a raw one (which is on CN now) and a localized one. They aren't showing the localized one because of all the Inuyasha-demanding, anal-retentive fanboys on their forums who MUST see it in its original form who would hate AS forever if they showed an anime that's been too "Americanized". So blame them if you're going to blame anyone. This one still isn't too bad though. At least the non-cultural jokes are good. Too bad I missed it last night because the cable was out. ![]()

Changing dubs in a drama setting that isn't pop-culture centered tends to change meanings and the overall intention of lines. |

The crazy pop-culture references add a nice touch of "wtf-ness" though. I do agree that the dub seems a bit lazy, but I still like it. |

The only exceptions are Milk Chan and Lupin, and I believe you can guess why I like those. I never go to this forum, the only reason I did is because I saw this topic. Okay? ^Wow, Carter likes it. Carter doesn't like anything. About the culture references, some of them are still kind of funny. They had one about Titanic in the... second one. 'toch, the episode yesterday was pretty bad. If you get a chance to watch any of the first three, do so. They're much better. (Though I don't think you particularly would like them.) PM, ya didn't miss much, but if you want to watch it for the sake of completeness they do show it again on Thursdays. [ November 29, 2004, 07:56 PM: Message edited by: Prince Toad ] |

Looks strange, but so are the rest of the shows on Adult Swim. Typically all I watch on Adult Swim now a days are Futurama, Aqua Teen and Sea Lab. But Sea Lab has been kinda down hill since the guy who played Murphy died. Oh, and Birdman is not too bad. I still wish I could have new episodes of Space Ghost, though.-jay |
