Since when did James ever have a Growlithe? I only ever remember Weezing and Victreebel. Then again, I stopped watching years ago. Oh well.

He had a Growlithe when he was a kid, but when he ran away from home to avoid an arranged marriage with a crazed Jessie look-alike, he told Growly to stay behind and look after his parents.

Hm... I actually did a search on this. (Heaven help me.)

The official site apparently had them listed as twelve (gulp) some time ago, though it lists no official age now. Most fans classify them as seventeen.

Let us not forget that Ash started off as (and since shows seem to go this way, he seems to still BE such) a ten year old in the anime. *shiver*
