I didn't see this movie until the summer and wow. It's a pretty amazing movie. Well, animation wise, at least. I think every anime fan should see this at least once.

It has very good action, but the dialogue and story is.... pretty inchoerent. The only way you can understand what the hell is going on is to read the manga(which is about 6 phonebooks long. I'm serious). The animation is also incredibly fluid and pretty.

It's definitely worth seeing at least once, in my opinion.

It's not that hard to understand. I mean after an online FAQ or two you eventually grasp what's going on.

Truly a classic, this isn't a should watch, it is a must.

It's hard to imagine a world in Anime without the influence of Akira. For christmas, I'm asking for the new collectors edition.. it has re-done English dialogue.

I watched it once or twice, and I basically understood what was going on. But I did enjoy the movie though ^^;;

What I mean is that in some parts they were religious. For example, in one part,they say
"It's Akira, the false messiah!!".
I'm not sure why.

Classic? This movie is an insult to the word. It's by far the worst anime movie I've seen in entirely--beating Gundam Wing Endless Waltz easily--and tied for the worst anime movie I've seen--as low as Ninja Scroll.

Akira : Akira Manga :: David Lynch's Dune : Dune Chronicles

The movie versions are badly cut, tastelessly produced, incoherent shadows of the controversial intellectual exercises--on the part of the author; whether they are intellectual exercises beyond normal reading on the part of the reader is yet another subject of controversy--upon which they were based.

What's so bad about Akira and Ninja Scroll? I'll give you endless waltz but come on.

I read the Manga a bit ago. Not bad. Not bad at all. It's very obvious that Miyako is the graphical basis of the Oracle from the Matrix.
