Japanese television programming schedule

As Anime fans typically should, you probably realize that Anime does not start its life as a fansub. No, Anime begins as a TV show on Japanese television. (Ignoring movies and OVAs, because I can.)

As such, would it not be mildly interesting to find out what the TV schedule in Japan is? You could look and say: "Oh whaddaya know? Naruto airs tonight at 7:00pm on TV Tokyo. If only I was in Japan... and spoke Japanese... I could catch it."

Here is the official TV Tokyo schedule as of April of 2003.

But if that's not fresh enough for you, you can go a little bit more cutting edge.

Here is the link to Yahoo's schedule. Just pump it through Babelfish and hopefully you'll be able to manage through incredibly disgusting Engrish. You select the schedule you want to see from the "Selecting date and the time zone" section. (Remember. Japan uses a 24 hour clock, and Babelfish translates the days of the week weirdly.)

Once there, you'll be sent to the VHF channels. You can also select "UHF BS Analog" (UHF Channels) and "BS Digital," (Digital Broadcast) as well as radio, although I doubt you'll find much Anime on the radio.

From a cursory look, Naruto seems pretty popular. Go nuts.

Huh. Looks like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and something that may be Hamtaro (Tokkoto Hamutaro) is on the list.

Interesting, though.
