Thumbs up

Genius. Each episode is a work of art. Who else has seen this incredible show? It beautifully encapsulates the 20th century.

I love this series. I am desperately trying to save money to buy it on DVD, since I know it's not going to be on TV forever. Anyway, i've been wanting to write this a long time, but hadn't had any place to put it...'til now. I present to you:

My Big Cowboy Bebop Rant (watch for spoilers):

First off, the music. It is amazing. It does exactly what it is supposed to do-bring out emotions. You can feel the cowboy lifestyle in the harmonica solo in the beginning of the first episode. You relate to Jet in the episode where he returns to his ex-wife, specifically when he is chasing the boat. You expiriance Edward's cat-like playfulness in Mushroom Samba. This is probably the best music i've heard in an anime ever. All actions or dialouge fit exactly with the music.

The story. Carfully integrating the backstories of the characters into every other episode is genious. You watch an episode and start to wonder: Who is Julia? What role does Vicious play in Spike's life? Then the next episode, Spike spends an entire episode fighting a blob, only to have Ed slowly pick it up and eat it. Then, another serious episode explaining Vicious's relationship with Julia.

The dialouge. There are some philosophical and mind probing monolougues, some extremely bad-ass dialouge, both of which are balanced out with hilarious comments. The actors don't have another soccor-mom anime to half-ass this time. Now it's done with just the right amount of emotion.

All in all, this is probably the best anime i've ever seen. Everything fits together perfectly, and there are numerous references to previous episodes, along with foreshadowing future events (Spike's "Bang.")

"Vicious: You should see yourself. Do you have any idea what you look like right at this moment, Spike?
Spike Spiegel: What?
Vicious: A ravenous beast. The same blood runs through both of us. The blood of a beast who wanders, hunting for the blood of others.
Spike Spiegel: I've bled all that kind of blood away.
Vicious: THEN WHY ARE YOU STILL ALIVE?"

^Best quote ever.
