*** BANDAI ENTERTAINMENT MORATORIUM ANNOUNCEMENT & WHEN THEY WILL BE BACK! ***

As of January 1st, 2004 Bandai Entertainment has dropped their distribution agreement
with Geneon Entertainment for all of their Anime DVD titles. Because of this, they are
changing the UPC codes on all of their products, and beginning now, there will be a
short moratorium period on many Bandai titles while the changes are printed. There are
also a few Bandai products that are being permanently discontinued, and we've got the
skinny on what's staying and what's going.

Please note that even during the moratorium period most of these titles should remain
available from the Anime Corner, as we have made sure to put plenty of them in stock
to tide us over during the blackout period. The moratorium does not include pre-orders
and new-releases, only DVD's that have already been released prior to January 1st, 2004.

+Samurai Champloo Manga Series - The GATV Website is reporting that a manga adaptation
of Shinichiro Watanabe's Samurai Champloo anime series will debut in the monthly manga
anthology, Shonen Ace, due out in Japan today. Watanabe is the director of the highly
popular Cowboy Bebop series as well as two superb segments from the Animatrix. Geneon
USA has acquired rights to the Samurai Champloo anime series, which may well be available
in the U.S. by the end of this year.

+LAST EXILE Goes to TECH TV - Geneon has been fortunate enough to finalize their deal
with TECH TV for the TV Broadcast rights of the series LAST EXILE. TECH TV will be
airing the first 13 Episodes March 8th-March 14th. They will be promoting the show in
a big way and will be airing two (2) Episodes a night Monday-Saturday in the Primetime
hour of 10:00 PM- 11:00 PM. Then on Sunday March 14th, starting at 4:00 PM, they will
play all 13 Episodes (6 and a half hours) in a row...a LAST EXILE Marathon.

+New Appleseed Trailer - A new 70 second Appleseed trailer is now available at Apple's
Japanese Quicktime site.

http://www.apple.com/jp/quicktime/tr...seed_large.mov

+Cutey Honey Pictures Gainax's Cutey Honey Page has put up a few images from the opening
of the upcoming Cutey Honey movie. Although the movie is a live action, the opening is
going to be 100% traditional animation.

+Tokyo Mew Mew Headed for Fox Box - According to an article from Animation World Magazine,
4Kids Entertainment has picked up the rights to Tokyo Mew Mew, and will be adding the
title to its Fox Box animation block later this year. A title change to Hollywood Mew
Mew is part of the positioning for the U.S. market (which we think sucks!).

+Playhut To Release Chinese 'Anime' - Playhut Entertainment has announced the summer
launch of three "anime-style" animated series from China on DVD. First up is Way of
the Warriors, a fantasy title in which two feuding families battle with magic and swordplay;
it will street on May 4. Next is Bird Island, an sf-based series which features a teen
with supernatural powers battling alien invaders; the first volume will street June 1. And
Decheng is the story of an orphan warrior in ancient China; it will launch on July 6.
All of the DVDs will carry $24.98 MSRPs and include four episodes.

+I'm Gonna Be An Angel Vol #2 has been delayed - Synch Point has delayed I'm Gonna Be An
Angel Vol #2 yet again, now to the end of March.

We figure 2 years just wasn't enough time... -_^

+Mature Anime and Manga pulled from Suncoast Shelves - Suncoast employees were instructed
to remove the Berserk and Steel Angel mangas, along with adult video titles Rei Rei and
Countdown from store shelves. However, some stores report that other similar titles such
as La Blue Girl and Blade of the Immortal have remained on store shelves. Suncoast officials
were, of course, unavailable to comment on the removal.

+'Detective Conan' Will Be 'Case Closed' in the U.S. - FUNimation Productions has announced
that Detective Conan, the highest-rated anime series in Japan, will undergo a name change
to Case Closed when it debuts on the Cartoon Network on April 5, 2004. According to a press
release from FUNimation, the name of the mega popular series was changed "due to legal
considerations" -- doubtless due to fears of confusion with Robert E. Howard's Conan the
Barbarian.

+Viz Gives Sporting Manga a Chance - If the manga boom continues much longer, we may soon
have almost as many genres represented here in the States as there are in Japan. Latest
case in point, Viz LLC.'s recent announcement of the April release of the first volume of
the Prince of Tennis manga.

+Marmalade Boy Ultimate Scrapbook - The eight-volume Marmalade Boy manga series by Yoshizumi
Wataru has been a major bookstore hit for Tokyopop, and the Marmalade Boy anime series is
one of the most requested series by American fans. Now Tokyopop is releasing the classic
bittersweet anime romantic comedy in four 19-episode "Scrapbooks," which will eventually
include all 76 episodes of the anime series, which ran on TV in Japan during 1994 and 1995.
The first volume in the series includes original commissioned artwork pencil boards in each
scrapbook, and special digipak packaging in a collector's box.

+Bandai & Manga Entertainment to Release 'Stand Alone Complex' - Anime distributors Manga
Entertainment and Bandai Entertainment will jointly distribute the new Ghost in the Shell:
Stand Alone Complex TV series. Both Bandai and Manga Entertainment functioned as producers
on the series along with the anime studio, Production I.G. (Kill Bill, Blood the Last Vampire,
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade). As is increasingly the case, these two American anime distributors
participated in financing the series in Japan in return for, among other things, the right to
distribute the property outside of Japan.

BOO! Berserk is awesome.

Hah, I do think it's funny about Conan's name change, but for some reason I think it's more out of fear of being confused with Conan O'Brien.

Berserk is awesome. It's a shame they're taking it off the shelves even though all the anime I actually buy, is off eBay.

I just hope that it's only Suncoast doing this. I get my anime from FYE or Best Buy. We don't have a suncoast here.

Maybe it's just me, but I just don't think anime should be live-action.
