Durr...anyone read the manga or watch the Anime?

MKR is about three girls who, on a field trip to Tokyo Tower, are transported to an alternate dimension because they are deemed to be the legendary Magic Knights who will save Cephiro.

In Cephiro, pretty much everything is ruled by willpower and belief. If you believe you can fly, you can fly. The world depends on a stable source of willpower and prayer, named the "Pillar". When Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu enter Cephiro, they learn that the Pillar is not a thing, but a person--Princess Emeraude, the very same who summoned the girls in the first place. At first, you're under the impression that she is being held hostage, but the story takes a strange twist at the end.

It's fairly corny, actually.

The protagonists are middle school girls. Umi, Fuu, and Hikaru. As you may have guessed from the literal translation of their names, Umi is given the magic power of water, Fuu of wind, and Hikaru of fire. (Later, they can also don the powers of 3 dragons of respectively corresponding elements. It's a lot less confusing if you read the damn books.) Coincidentially, each can handle a weapon with some skill--Umi is on the fencing team in her rich prep school, Fuu is on the archery team, and Hikaru's family owns a Kendo dojo.

Magic Knight Rayearth is...corny. There's no real way to get around it. Pre-defined elemental characters (with hair and eye colours to match). The story's a bit primitive and fairly unoriginal...

But it's not horrible. I only recommend it if you're into shoujo. 3/5.

I read the first three volumes of the manga, and loved it. Best manga by CLAMP is X, though.
