So... After watching Kill Bill for the 4927th time...

I decided I need to find a good anime to watch, because the animation in the anime sequence is awesome. I'm "acquiring" a fansubbed version of Blood+ at the moment, simply bcause it was done by the same studio who did the O-Ren Ishii sequence.

What I'm looking for is something dark, without too many "magical powers" like the ones I've seen on TV. Think of the aforementioned sequence from Kill Bill, Afro Samurai, or some sort of animated equivalent to Lone Wolf & Cub.

What, is this you cutting your anime eye teeth?

Get the original Ghost in the Shell movie. I don't care, just do it.

Arrow

The darkest series I remember watching is Serial Experiments Lain, but it has a completely different premise.

Basilisk - A ninja show, yet pretty realistic. Aside from certain "magic" aspects, including one certain eye-born power, if bloody, samurai stuff is your thing, check this out. My personal favorite. And yes, this one is dark enough.

Samurai Champloo - If you liked Afro Samurai, you'll ****ing love this. Not really "dark" per se, but still very cool.

And I could go on, but this is probably all I can recommend that you would want to see.

Death Note is pretty dark, but it isn't overly bloody.

Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin) is good, yes, but it was waaaay better in Manga form. Just read the manga on that one.
