The best for me I would have to say is Basilisk, yes it was somewhat sad like Chrono Crusade but still good.

I agree, Basilisk has a spectacular, if not HORRENDOUSLY DEPRESSING ending. But still, gotta say, any anime with fictional characters that somehow draw tears from me is awesome, and that much more realistic.

^I still remember Gundam 0080's ending, and saw the last episode many times. It was amazing for that reason - gritty, real, great stuff. I think I once tried to write with it in mind or something and failed miserably.
