Steamboy

From the producer of the legendary film Akira came this film, another alternative-history.

...Perhaps I was expecting a little too much becuase Akira was so good, but I kinda thought this wasn't that good...I wasn't really expecting anything as good as Akira or Castle in the Sky, but it was better than most animes out there. It's easier to tell what's going on in Steamboy than Akira, but Akira had a much better story.

Sure, there are some messages...When the Steam Castle begins to fail and kill hundreds of innocents, and when two factions collide trying to get ahold of weapons technology, it certainly does create a cold war outlook on the Arms Race. The Animation is very impressive, somewhat of the combination of the Hand-drawn animation charm and the fast-paced action sequences of today's CGI-movies like Advent Children.

But unfortunately, the animation's much more interesting than the characters or the story. We have a spoiled brat, insane scientist, scientist with common sense, the rival mad scientist and his minions, the spoiled brat's butler, and our hero, a 12-year-old genius who appears to be way too easily influenced by the opinions of others.

In all, if you get the chance to pick this up, I reccomend that you rent it. It's not worth buying and then watching it again a few months/years later, or with your friends unless they're keen on animation and visuals. Don't be expecting too much.
