Ways to destroy a character in an anime:

-If they're female, give them a very high-pitched voice that's not even cute (Like the girls in Azumanga Daioh), and give them loads of speaking time. It is an anime, so have them yell a lot.

-If they're male, give them a voice that sounds monotonous, the more TTS-like, the better. Then, give them a very emo-personality or make them sound like they don't even care or like they're even constipated during fights.

-If they are a child, hire a woman to voice them, and make sure that they sound more like a young girl than a boy who has hit puberty.

-Make the child obnoxious, always screaming, whining, or crying. Make them seem even more obnoxious in comparison by making all the other boy characters sound like they're eight years older despite being the same age.

-Make them be the spectator characters. The more utterly defenseless they are, the better.

-Name them "Kagome", "Naruto", "Sasuke", or "Sakura".

-Have the boy disguise himself as a woman, and he must be as feminine as a Final Fantasy hero.

There are some characters you hate because the creators meant for you to hate them. Proves that they're well-done if they're hated in a way that was brought on by the character's actions, brought on by the way the creator presented them. Doesn't mean you like 'em, just means they were well created and worked out. The ones you hate because they are unintentionally stupid or annoying? Those are not well done.

Anyway, I would have to say Yakushiji Tenzen from Basilisk. He was so evil, so long-lasting, and invincible to boot, that you could not help but celebrate every time he was hurt. He was presented in a horribly disgusting, greedy way. A great character, and a very interesting villain. But you can;t help but hate him.

One character that I can say I hate is Gendo Ikari. Mostly because of reasons similiar to Gale's: he's cold and mean, and he abandoned poor Shinji at a young age, and has, since then, been ignoring him for the most part.

So true. I hate him just as much as you do, and for many reasons aside from the ones you told. He was low, underhanded, and did ANYTHING to win.

Hell, he RAPED, twice! One women for both his side and the other. He used other people to do his dirty work on taking down Saemon. (Whom would have easily escaped if Tenzen confronted him alone.) Him killing Saemon, my favorite character, in such a dirty way only feuled my hatred for him. He attempted to kill Gennosuke when he was blind and poisoned. He never killed alone, unless he knew he could win. (One example was against Gyoubu. Without assistance, Tenzen never would have been able to beat him. With Saemon he needed almost a dozen guards to corner him.) Plus, in the end, it was Tenzen whom started the entier feud in the first place. Now if that does not make you want to kill him with fire, I don't know what will.

King Hamdo from Now and then Here and There. I absolutely despise him to the point I would have cheered if they had killed him off and ruined the story before the ending.

I'm glad they didn't because as it stands NTHT is my second favorite anime, but damn I wanted to see him die and die painfully.
